Can you teach an Old Dog new tricks?

Well I have started a new language!! Its called ASL (American Sign Language), I read about it on Rockstar Mommy's blog ( Thank-you again for sending me the links they have helped a great deal) I have always wanted to teach my kids but never really knew how to go about it, well I am determined to teach them now, I have been reading up on it and I shouldnt start Christopher on it till he's atleast 3-6 mnths I figured I could start learning now and mayby have something learned by then. Ive been working on the basics, sleep, eat ect...he loves people talking to him so who knows if he'll like this or not I hope he does I read that it can cause higher IQ's and their vocabulary is very advanced, of course Chris doesnt quite understand how you can have a higher IQ just from talking with your hands but who cares! Its something I want to do and not to mention I can learn something new. Im gonna start teaching the rest of my kids also I dont know if my boys will get into it or not Kayla definatly will she loves stuff like that everytime we go to a Mexican restraunt she makes them teach her a new word, and God knows Ive watched enough Dora to learn it myself! So wish me luck on my journey lol Im gonna need it!

I know it silly but I do it to him now, if I say something that I know the sign to Ill do it to him, mayby he understands I figured if we talk to them from birth why not sign?; 3/26/2006 8:36 PM
RFamily had this to say:: I started mine around 6-7 months, but they can't really start responding until about 9 months. I started them earlier than what I read. The book said it really won't make a difference cause they can't respond until around 9 months. I say, if you want to start it earlier, then do it. It's your child and these books don't know if your child will be a little ahead of the "average". My oldest already does a few signs with his sister.
