Alicia's progress...
Well yesterday after I posted, I went and took a nap well attempted to start one when Chris's phone started ringing and all I heard was ok Mama calm down, he gets off the phone and informs that they are about to transport the baby to MCG because her lungs are not working and her heart is in distress. So we jump up and start getting ready Chris was suppose to work so he to find someone to cover his special, then Chelle called me all upset crying her eyes out and of course Im very emotional at this moment so Im crying and poor Chris doesnt know what to do, so I get off the phone and tell him that Chelle said their gonna give her Nitros Oxide into her lungs to make them work which I was confused at the moment then I got to the hospital and talked to the Dr myself and translated for everyone else , Ok when a baby is in you they dont use their lungs persay, so everything is closed the sacs and vessels ect. well when the come out they take that 1st breath and open everything up well since she inhaled Meconium into her it coated her lungs like a glue and her sacs and vessels coulnt open up. So they get her to MCG and give her the Nitros ( this is prob spelled wrong but you understand) and by the time we get to the hospital theyve called and said its not working, Great !! so the Dr calles back and says he has this treatment and they want to do it, its called ECMOhttp://www.mcg.edu/news/2001NewsRel/bhatia.html this is the link but to break it down for ya , Its a machine that they hook into her jugglar vein and pull the blood out of her oxgenate it and put it back in, so her heart and lungs dont have to do the hard stuff. Well I went by there today and talked to her nurse who was just AWSOME! He has been doing this for years and is specially trained just for the ECMO she has a nurse whith her 24 hrs a day and only one that is trained for her condition, Dave ( her nurse) said that Alicia was awsome that most babies he takes care of are not so responsive within 24 hrs like she has, matter of fact theyve started to wean her off the machine and her lungs are opening up !! So if all goes well by next week our little Chunky Monkey will be home! So keep the prayers going ! Ill update later right now my own chunky monkey has kept me wore out not to mention staying at a hospital for 2 days im so tired but for some reason cant sleep........
